Theme: Sustainability Literacy as a Bridge to Addressing 21st Century Problems Cofc Sustains/Solves theme of the year: “Social Justice and Fair Distribution”

To be awarded:  The winning artwork will receive up to $2,000 to cover all materials, labor and installation and will be displayed on the College of Charleston campus.

Description of Entry Sought: The Sustainability Literacy Institute (SLI) is seeking independent or collaborative student submissions or proposals for the second annual QEP Visual Art Project of the Year.  The proposed expression should help raise awareness about sustainability literacy, broadly, by focusing on the triple bottom line of sustainability (social, environmental, and economic systems); and the CofC Sustains/Solves 2018-2019 theme of the year, social justice and fair distribution.  To learn more, visit the College of Charleston’s portal for sustainability literacy at http://sustain.cofc.edu/ or email the QEP director, Todd LeVasseur, at levasseurtj@cofc.edu.

Requirements of Proposal: All proposals should be emailed to the QEP director, Todd LeVasseur, at levasseurtj@cofc.edu by no later than 5pm, March 15th, 2018.  Submissions should include the name(s) of applicant(s), an official CofC email address, year of academic standing, major, and at least 2 examples of work that the applicant has completed within the last two years through a pdf or digital image of this work.  An artist’s statement may also be included but is not required.  A statement of intent is required describing the visual project and its connection to sustainability literacy and the CofC Sustains/Solves theme of social justice, and the hoped for impact of the visual project when encountered by a viewer.  An itemized budget for costs of materials, labor and installation (up to $2,000) must be included.  The winning artwork must be completed by August 15th, 2018, and the student/artist(s) must be on campus at the beginning of the fall 2018 semester for its presentation to the public.     

All proposals will be judged by the QEP Implementation Committee, Sustainability Literacy Faculty Fellows, and QEP director.  The author of the winning proposal will be notified by April 15th, 2018.
